Forest Planning Technical Assistance
Funding from a regional forestry grant supports forestry outreach, education, and technical assistance, including technical assistance from Mason Conservation District (MCD) foresters. They are available to conduct site visits and to assist forest landowners with development of forest management plans. To request assistance, please use the form on the MCD Forest Stewardship page. Additionally, MCD is offering free wildfire risk home assessments, which are available to Jefferson County residents. Please use this form to sign up for a wildfire risk assessment.
Demand for the Washington Department of Natural Resources’ landowner assistance programs grows each year. To meet that need, the agency has increased staffing and created two online tools to make its services more accessible to forest landowners.
DNR’s Landowner Assistance Portal, launched in August 2022, brings resources for landowners from the DNR and partner organizations under one umbrella to provide a one-stop shop experience. Residents can also use the new Find Your Forester tool to locate foresters in their area.
The agency used funding from House Bill 1168 to create more than two dozen new positions in support of landowner assistance, which led to the expansion of its existing Service Forestry Program into Western Washington, and the addition of six positions in the Small Forest Landowner Regulation Assistance Program statewide.
